Crossover TV Episode: Watcher

In this episode of Star Trek: Picard set on April 12, 2024, Guinan closes her bar at 10 Forward Avenue and entrusts her pit bull Luna to her friend Dale. Dale is played by Brian Quinn, who previously played the role in the 12 Monkeys episode “Year of the Monkey” and the MacGyver episode “Mac + Desi + Riley + Aubrey.” The MacGyver reboot has crossed-over with the Hawaii Five-O reboot twice, which in turn twice crossed-over with the Magnum, P.I. reboot. All three series are incompatible with the original shows, which are all in the CU, so they must be set in an alternate universe. Hawaii Five-O also crossed-over with NCIS: Los Angeles twice. The various NCIS shows are in the CU, so the NCIS: Los Angeles characters must have counterparts in that AU. Obviously, Dale does as well. The TV version of 12 Monkeys ends with the time-traveling protagonists averting the disastrous future that they were trying to prevent throughout its run, so that presents no problem. The TV series is not in continuity with Terry Gilliam’s original film, which would be in its own universe. Swaford Single Malt Whiskey has appeared in both Star Trek: Picard and the MacGyver reboot.

This crossover is one of hundreds covered in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3, which will be published by Meteor House! All three volumes are AUTHORIZED companions to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2!

Crossover Covers: Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds

A sequel to the earlier miniseries Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, in which the Green Lantern Corps of a possible future for the DC Universe found themselves transported to the divergent universe seen in J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek films. In this story, Sinestro of GL’s universe tries to stop the Guardians of the Universe from forming the Corps in Kirk and company’s universe as well. At the end of the story, Hal Jordan is interested in discovering whether this universe has a planet with a red sun, a reference to Superman’s homeworld of Krypton.

Crossover of the Week

May 1-October 1957

FIRST FRONTIER

The Doctor helped the U.S. government with an affair in Santa Mira in 1956. The Master uses the phrase “Klaatu barada nikto.” Dr. von Scott examines UFO wreckage. Benny Summerfield excavated a series of 500-foot towers on Metaluna. Ace uses the obscenities “qu’vatlh” and “smeg.” A character says, “That’s like something out of Future Boy.” The Darklings, the fungoid inhabitants of Yuggoth, were driven back to 61 Cygni after their war with the Tzun.

Doctor Who: The New Adventures novel by David A. McIntee, Virgin Books, 1994. The affair in Santa Mira in 1956 is a reference to the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The phrase “Klaatu barada nikto” comes from the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still. Dr. von Scott is the real name of Dr. Everett Scott in the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The planet Metaluna is from the movie This Island Earth. “Qu’vatlh” is a Klingon swear word in Star Trek. The word “smeg” comes from the TV series Red Dwarf. Future Boy is a reference to the Quantum Leap episode “Future Boy – October 6, 1957.” In that episode, Future Boy is the sidekick of 1950s TV superhero Captain Galaxy on the television series Time Patrol, so the reference to Future Boy as the title of the show is a mistake. The Darklings and 61 Cygni are from the Blake’s 7 episode “Killer.” McIntee identifies them with the Mi-Go (aka the Fungi from Yuggoth) from H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. Although most Doctor Who novels take place in the Doctor Who Universe rather than the Crossover Universe, the battle between the Mi-Go and the Tzun is referenced in Stephen Baxter’s “The Ninth Planet,” a chapter of the Cthulhu Mythos “mosaic novel” The Lovecraft Squad: Rising. The Lovecraft Squad series has several crossovers linking it to the CU. This novel also establishes Red Dwarf and Blake’s 7 as possible futures for the CU.

This crossover write-up is one of hundreds included in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3, which will be published by Meteor House! Like its predecessors, this volume is an AUTHORIZED companion to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2!

Crossover Cover: Blind Man's Bluff

Seven of Nine introduces Soleta to the Doctor, Voyager’s former Emergency Medical Hologram. Soleta responds, “The Doctor? I met a man called the Doctor once. Wore a long brown coat and a blue suit. Very odd person. This isn’t him.” The man Soleta met is the Doctor of Doctor Who fame, specifically his tenth incarnation. Although most of the Doctor’s recorded exploits take place in an AU, he does have a CU counterpart, who often goes by the name Doctor Omega.

This crossover, and many more, will be included in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World, which will be published by Meteor House! Like the other two volumes, this book is an AUTHORIZED companion to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2!

Crossover Cover: Nightingale's Lament

John Taylor is hired to investigate a singer known as the Nightingale, whose singing inspires suicide. Appearing or mentioned are: a new edition of The King in Yellow (a play from Robert W. Chambers’ book of the same name, which was incorporated into the Cthulhu Mythos by H. P. Lovecraft); the password “Swordfish” to get into a nightclub (the password to a speakeasy in the Marx Bros. film Horse Feathers); lots of monkeys doing manual labor, some of whom still have their wings (from L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz); combat magicians (a reference to Warren Ellis’ comic book Gravel); Nicholas Hob (from Green’s book Drinking Midnight Wine); miller medallions (from the comic book Grimjack); Julien Advent, the timelost Victorian Adventurer (meant to be Adam Adamant from the BBC TV series Adam Adamant Lives!); phasers and photon torpedoes (from Star Trek); and the Murder Masque (said to be the villain responsible for Julien Advent becoming timelost, which means he is intended to be the Face, the main villain from Adam Adamant Lives!).
