Crossover Cover: Grand Guignol: Septieme Partie: A Villain’s Tale II

Hamilton Drew, a Sherlock Holmes-like occult detective, belonged to the Groves Club, which possessed a copy of Natty Bumppo’s diary. This reference is somewhat surprising, since James Fenimore Cooper portrayed Bumppo as illiterate. Although the Jack Knight version of Starman has a CU counterpart, as do the Elongated Man and the second Phantom Lady (Dee Tyler), who also appear, the “Grand Guignol” storyline has too many appearances by other DC heroes (including a flashback to one of the Justice Society of America’s original cases) to fit comfortably into the CU, so this must be an AU.

This crossover is one of over a thousand covered in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3, coming this summer from Meteor House! All three volumes are AUTHORIZED companions to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2!

Crossover Covers: Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds

A sequel to the earlier miniseries Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, in which the Green Lantern Corps of a possible future for the DC Universe found themselves transported to the divergent universe seen in J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek films. In this story, Sinestro of GL’s universe tries to stop the Guardians of the Universe from forming the Corps in Kirk and company’s universe as well. At the end of the story, Hal Jordan is interested in discovering whether this universe has a planet with a red sun, a reference to Superman’s homeworld of Krypton.

This crossover is one of hundreds covered in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3, which will be published by Meteor House! All three volumes are AUTHORIZED companions to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2!

Crossover Cover: Ten Miles to Nowhere!

A narration box compares Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, to “a doctor named Jekyll,” who in the nineteenth century “concocted a chemical potion that transformed him into the vicious Mr. Hyde...” Dr. Jekyll is referred to as a historical figure, further demonstrating that a version of the Elongated Man exists in the CU.

Crossover Cover: Toys in the Attic

The first appearance of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths version of Superman’s foe the Toyman. The Man of Steel is told about the villain by two unnamed British intelligence agents who are clearly John Steed and Emma Peel. In general, it is preferable to keep the few superheroes in the CU in their original publication era. This, combined with the fact that the end of the story ties in with a companywide crossover event called Millennium, makes this comic an AU.

Conan encounters an amnesiac Wonder Woman (Princess Diana of Themyscira), whom he believes to be his first love from his childhood, and together they battle a pair of evil sorceresses. At one point, Conan says Diana reminds him of a certain redhead of his acquaintance. This is Red Sonja, of course.

Crossover Cover: Too Much Time

The time traveler Waverider views the future of the members of Justice League International’s European branch to determine whether one of them will become Monarch, the tyrant that rules over his native year of 2001. Said future involves a mishap sending them to various time periods, past and future, where they meet DC heroes of those eras. The armored Russian hero Rocket Red (Dmitri Pushkin) finds himself in Arthurian England, where he joins the Knights of the Round Table. Dmitri toasts one of his fellow knights, “To you, my friend! Is good Russian name, Ivan! But from where do you get this Chinese last name, ‘Ho’?” The Elongated Man winds up in 1895 London, where Professor Moriarty becomes entangled in his malleable body. Later, he attends a party, where an irate Sherlock Holmes accuses him of sheer luck in capturing his archenemy. With very rare exceptions, superhero teams such as Justice League Europe are not included in the Crossover Universe. Further cementing this story outside CU continuity is the fact it is part of a company-wide crossover event called Armageddon 2001. Lastly, Sir Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe takes place during the reign of Richard the Lionheart, not King Arthur.

This crossover is one of hundreds covered in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3, to be published by Meteor House! All three volumes are AUTHORIZED companions to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2!

Crossover Covers: Batman '66 Meets Steed and Mrs. Peel

Batman and Robin join forces with John Steed and Emma Peel to battle the Cybernauts, Mr. Freeze, and Lord Ffogg. Batman says, “As a noted crime-fighting predecessor once observed, ‘the weeds of crime bear bitter fruit!’” Batman’s crime-fighting predecessor is the pulp hero of the shadows. The Batman and Robin seen here are Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne, Jr.

This crossover is one of hundreds covered in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3! Much like the first two volumes, this book is an AUTHORIZED companion to Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2, and will be published by Meteor House!

Crossover Covers: Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo

In Mud Creek, Texas, Jonah Hex has a run-in with Doc “Cross” Williams and his traveling freak show, which includes Wild Bill Hickok, who Williams turned into a zombie using The Book of Doches. Williams also possesses a copy of the book Anatomy by Maturin. The town of Mud Creek and The Book of Doches recur throughout Lansdale’s fiction, both prose and comic books. Maturin is Dr. Stephen Maturin from Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin novels.

This crossover is one of hundreds that will be included in my book Crossovers Expanded: A Secret Chronology of the World Volume 3, to be released by Meteor House! Much like the first two volumes, this book is an AUTHORIZED companion to Crossovers: A Secret Chronology of the World Volumes 1 and 2 by Win Scott Eckert!

Crossover Covers: Batman '66 Meets the Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Batman, Robin, and Batgirl join forces with Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin when THRUSH has several of the Caped Crusader's foes broken out of Arkham in exchange for their joining the organization. Mr. Freeze and the Siren steal a ray gun called a “moleculator” from a facility in London. One of the scientists at the facility is named Dr. Quatermass. Dr. Bernard Quatermass is from the British science fiction television serial The Quatermass Experiment and its sequels.

Crossover Cover: Django/Zorro

Django Freeman teams up with the aging Don Diego de la Vega to battle the self-styled “Archduke of Arizona.” This story takes place after the events of Tarantino’s film Django Unchained, which occurred in 18581859. However, the film The Mask of Zorro (which is referenced in Jess Nevins' "A Root That Beareth Gall and Worms" and John Allen Small's "A Fate Cast in Silver") has Don Diego definitively dying in 1842. Therefore, I consider this particular story an AU.
