Crossover Covers: Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds

 

A sequel to the earlier miniseries Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, in which the Green Lantern Corps of a possible future for the DC Universe found themselves transported to the divergent universe seen in J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek films. In this story, Sinestro of GL’s universe tries to stop the Guardians of the Universe from forming the Corps in Kirk and company’s universe as well. At the end of the story, Hal Jordan is interested in discovering whether this universe has a planet with a red sun, a reference to Superman’s homeworld of Krypton.

Crossover Cover: The Helmet and the Fedora

 

In Kelvin Mao and Craig Cermak's story in this comic, Cliff Secord and Betty Page go to a lecture at the Museum of Natural History. The speaker is a professor who has traveled all over the world researching primitive cultures. A bored Cliff drifts away, only to witness a bunch of crooks he spotted earlier trying to steal one of the items displayed. He dons his Rocketeer garb and pack to fight them off but gets knocked for a loop. The professor takes down the gangsters using a whip. After regaining consciousness, Cliff finds a fedora with a bullet hole in it that he realizes isn’t the hat he was wearing before. He catches up with Betty, who is talking to the professor. The wall has symbolic shadows on it of the Rocketeer and a man in a fedora carrying a whip. The professor is Indiana Jones. The year of this story isn't given, so I am placing it in 1939. It also ran untitled, so I provided the title myself.

Crossover Covers: G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero vs the Six Million Dollar Man

The terrorist organization COBRA takes control of bionic OSI agent Steve Austin, forcing G.I. Joe to intervene. After being freed of COBRA’s influence, Steve, about to sacrifice his life, asks the Joes to tell Jaime Sommers he loves her, though in the end he survives. Jaime Sommers is the Bionic Woman. Based on a theater marquee promoting the movie Time Bandits, this story takes place in 1981.

Ash Williams and Elvis Presley battle the mummy Ho-Tep, who is seeking to use an Egyptian “Book of Souls” called the Necronomicon Ho-Tep for his own ends.

Crossover Cover: Not Gratum Anus Rodentum

This anthology of X-Files prose stories from IDW Publishing includes “Not Gratum Anus Rodentum” by Brian Keene. Walter Skinner investigates a were-rat. At one point, Skinner and a group of homeless kids discuss the Herod slayings, which were depicted in Keene’s story “Slouching in Bethlehem,” which connects to other works by Keene.

Crossover Covers: The X-Files: Conspiracy

The X-Files: Conspiracy, series of one-shots from IDW Publishing. The Lone Gunmen (who are revealed in The X-Files: Season 10 comics to have faked their deaths) investigate a series of documents from the future that lead them to investigate a series of “urban legends” that turn out to be true, including the Ghostbusters, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Transformers, and the Crow. The premise of the Transformers, involving giant robots using Earth as a battleground, is incompatible with the premise the CU resembles the world outside our window, at least on the surface, and therefore I consider this an AU.

Crossover Cover: A Dream of Flying

IDW Publishing did two volumes of The Rocketeer Adventures, an anthology comic featuring new stories of Dave Stevens' character by a diverse range of writers and artists. The first issue of the second volume contains the story "A Dream of Flying" by Stan Sakai. Flying through a rural area, the Rocketeer is attacked by a young man with red hair wielding a shotgun. After Cliff falls through the roof of a barn, the redhead demands his rocket pack, saying he’ll disassemble it to see how it works and build a better one. Cliff’s enemy is attacked from behind by a young boy with a spit curl in his black hair, and Cliff delivers a knockout blow to the would-be thief. The boy says of the thief, "Pa always said that Lex is a bad apple." He expresses excitement at Cliff’s ability to fly, and says he has always dreamed of doing so himself, but it’s impossible. Cliff takes off into the air with the ecstatic boy in his arms, then brings him back to the ground and flies off into the distance. The boy’s parents arrive home from shopping to find him with a sheet tied around his neck, proclaiming he flew. When his mother comments on the boy’s imagination, his father says, "Now, Martha, a bit of imagination is good for a boy his age.” The boy plays happily, saying “Up, up, and away!" as his dog follows him. The boy is clearly a young Clark Kent, and this takes place before he discovers his superpowers. However, the CU version of Clark was already a grown man and active as Superman by the time Cliff Secord became the Rocketeer, thus placing this story in an AU.

Crossover Cover: Infestation 2: 30 Days of Night

A group of vampires battle the Old Ones in the Arctic. Miskatonic University is mentioned. The vampires are from the comic book 30 Days of Night. This story is part of a multiversal crossover that features the Old Ones waking up and attacking different worlds, so therefore it doesn’t bring in any of the other continuities featured, though the DangerGirl cameo in the final issue probably takes place in the CU.

Crossover Covers: Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War

The Enterprise crew of the divergent universe seen in the films Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into Darkness encounter Green Lantern Hal Jordan and the surviving members of six other Corps bearing different-colored rings that allow them to harness the powers of the Emotional Spectrum, who were sent there from their own reality (a possible future of the DC Comics Universe) to escape the wrath of the embodiment of Death known as Nekron, who instead follows them to this new universe.

Crossover Cover: Angel: After the Fall

Angel uses a spell from the Necronomicon Ex Mortis (from the Evil Dead films) to heal himself. This series takes place months after the Angel series finale “Not Fade Away.”

Crossover Cover: Angel Spotlight: Wesley

Charles Gunn asks Fred Burkle for the slime analysis on “the Illithid case.” Illithids are the mind-flayers from the Dungeons and Dragons games, thus making the various D&D realms alternate realities to the CU.

Crossover Covers: Millennium

Frank Black is aided by Fox Mulder in his efforts to keep the Millennium Group from recruiting his daughter Jordan. This series is a sequel to the television series Millennium and The X-Files episode of the same name, which wrapped up some dangling plot threads from that show.

Crossover Covers: Reborn

Illyria, the fallen Old One, is recruited by the Hierarchy of Bete Noir, the secret City that Shapes the World, to destroy Liandra, the Fallen Angel and the city’s “court of last resort.” The Hierarchy is mentioned to be the oldest client of the evil law firm Wolfram & Hart. Illyria and Liandra fight, but end up forming an uneasy alliance as they are mystically transported around the world and finally to a post-apocalyptic future before returning to Bete Noir in the present. This crossover links Peter David’s Fallen Angel comic series to Illyria and Wolfram & Hart from the TV series Angel, and thus to the CU. Since time flows differently within Bete Noir than it does in the rest of the world, dating within the Fallen Angel series can be difficult; however, using Illyria’s perspective, this crossover happens a few days after the Angel episode “Time Bomb.”

Crossover Covers: The Primate Directive

The Enterprise crew follows Commander Kor and his men through a wormhole, ending up on an alternate Earth in the year 3878 dominated by sentient apes that have enslaved man. There, the Klingons form an alliance with the apes, while Kirk and his men befriend an astronaut named Taylor. This story establishes the Earth on which the Planet of the Apes films take place as an alternate reality to the CU. This story is not dated, but it takes place after the Star Trek episodes “Errand of Mercy” and “Mirror, Mirror,” both of which occur in 2264. December 2264 is a gap in Win Scott Eckert’s “The Star Trek Annotated Timeline” (found on the An Expansion of Philip José Farmer’s Wold Newton Universe website.) In the timeline of the Planet of the Apes series, the appearances of Taylor and other characters from those films take place between Planet of the Apes and Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
