Crossover TV Series: Goober and the Ghost Chasers

Goober and the Ghost Chasers are a group of youths who investigate supernatural occurrences a la Scooby-Doo and Mystery, Inc. However, most of the ghosts Goober (a talking dog) and company face are real, and they work for a magazine on the supernatural, rather than being private investigators. Perhaps Goober is a relative of Scooby’s, explaining their common talent for speech, though Scooby doesn’t share Goober’s ability to turn invisible when scared. Perhaps someone fed Goober a variant on John Hawley Griffin’s serum. In the episode "Assignment: The Ahab Apparition," they come to the aid of the Partridge kids, who are vacationing in Peaceful Cove, where a mansion is haunted by the ghosts of Captain Ahab and Moby Dick.Moby Dick and Captain Ahab are already firmly in the CU; therefore, this crossover brings in Goober and the gang. The Partridge kids are from The Partridge Family, thus bringing that show and its spin-off Getting Together into the CU. The Partridges appeared in eight of the sixteen episodes of Goober and the Ghost Chasers. Subsequent episodes have more crossovers. In "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," Goober and pals come to the Partridge kids’ aid when their concert is canceled due to Macbeth’s ghost attacking the Globe Theatre. In "The Singing Ghost," Frankenstein’s Monster III tricks the Partridge kids into coming to his mansion so he may steal Danny Partridge’s voice. Goober and the Ghost Chasers prevent this from happening. It is as yet unknown which of the many monsters created by members of the Frankenstein family is "Frankenstein’s Monster III." In "Is Sherlock Holme?," Goober and pals travel to England to investigate a series of thefts at a haunted mansion, aided by Detective Sergeant Roger Sherlock, a relative of Sherlock Holmes. Since Sherlock Holmes is not known to have any ancestors with the surname Sherlock, it is possible Roger’s full name is Roger Sherlock Holmes, and he shortened it for professional reasons.

  1. I recall the "New Scooby-Doo Movies" featuring a boatload of crossovers as well (aside from guest-stars). I know the Batman & Robin episodes are already in, but are "Jeannie", "Jose and the Pussycats" and the "Addams Family" in as well?

The only inclusion I can see being problematic is the Harlem Globe Trotters, due to their animated series being way too weird to fit properly into the CU timeline. More than likely, the Mystery Gang met their CU counterparts.

  2. Yes, Win included all three of those in the original Crossovers.

  3. An immortal MacBeth was a recurring character in the cartoon Gargoyles, which is also in the CU, so I wonder how his ghost could haunt a concert?

Interestingly, the Gargoyles version of MacBeth was actually closer to historical record than Shakespeare's. (Basically, MacBeth was the good guy, Duncan was the usurper.)

Of course, the Gargoyles version of King Arthur's return conflicts with the one from Simon Green's Nightside books.

  4. There was an episode of Boy Meets World where three of the Monkees, not playing themselves, performed together. At the end of the performance Ruben Kincaid offered to manage them.
Boy meets world had a continuation series Girl Meets world and several other ABC series crossovers from memory including Step by Step.

    1. Interesting. Girl Meets World was recently part of a Halloween crossover event on the Disney Channel. Most of the Disney Channel live action series are connected by crossovers:

  5. Not related to this post but last night I watched an episode if Lost in Soace "A Day at the Zoo" that showed what appeared to be a family of Ferengi visiting the zoo. As this future is incompatible with Star Trek it must be an AU

  6. On the subject of Roger Sherlock *Holmes, I'm reminded that one of the main characters in Catherine Coulter's "FBI Thriller" books is one Lacey Sherlock. I've no idea whether her backstory is compatible, though it may be worth noting that Coulter is also writing a spin-off series starring a Drummond.
