Crossover Cover: Blood Rites

Harry Dresden says that the White Council published the Necronomicon, knowing that if too many people try to use a rite, it depletes the energy required to conduct it. Harry’s mentor Ebenazar Blackstaff tells him that half-demon mercenary Jared Kincaid once served Vlad Drakul, father of Dracula, and that Dracula went to the Black Court as a form of teenage rebellion.

  1. The White Council publishing the Necronomicon would explain why it shows up in every other Cthulhu Mythos story (and non-mythos stories as well.)

When you said Dracula went to the White Council did you mean the Black Court of vampires? Or did Dracula have something to do with the White Council? I don't remember that from when I read the book but it's been awhile.

  2. You're right, it was the Black Court. My mistake.

  3. This one was also, if I remember correctly, the one with a couple of offhand references to Buffy the Vampire Slayer - during a fight with some Black Court vampires, Harry tells another character to "make like Buffy" and describes his attempts to ram his broken blasting rod into an undead rib-cage as "Buffy-like". Of course he goes and ruins it by saying that the move looks easier on TV, but strictly speaking he never comes out and calls Buffy a fictional character.

  4. On Buffy it seemed like you could kill a vampire with a splinter. Someone should have told the writers that the rib cage is there for a reason.

I'll leave it to Sean to decide whether the reference is valid.
