Vampirella battles Dr. Faustus, who has unleashed a pathogen that causes people to go on murderous rampages. Her allies include werewolf Tristan Calliet and Roderick Usher IV, who claims that the story of his ancestor’s demise was somewhat embellished, and that his family estate still stands, though it’s seen better days. Dr. Faustus is from Christopher Marlowe’s play The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus. Tristan Calliet is probably a relative of Bertrand Calliet, the title character of Guy Endore’s The Werewolf of Paris. The original Roderick Usher is from Edgar Allan Poe’s story “The Fall of the House of Usher.”
