Crossover Cover: The Eye of Darkness

As those who've read some of my previous posts know, Teel James Glenn's pulp-era hero Dr. Shadows in the CU through connections to other pulp heroes. You can click on the Teel James Glenn label at the bottom of this post to see what I've shared here in the past about his work. In this story, aboard a ship bound from Hong Kong to San Francisco, Dr. Shadows hunts a killer who is trying to get his hands on precious medallions found on an archaeological expedition led by Dr. Henry Gordon. The other surviving members of the expedition, including Gordon’s daughter Nyoka, are also on the ship. The Gordons are from the 1942 serial Perils of Nyoka.

    Hi there. I've been checking your blog for the last few months and I find the whole Wold Newton/CU concept very fascinating. You guys really outdone yourselves.

    Inspired by you and your friend's research, I decided to do a bit of digging myself, and I found quite a number of potential candidates for inclusion in the CU continuity. But I was wondering... Do you take recommendations from commenters? Or is there some other website I must visit first?

      These are the ones I can think at the top of my head:

      Star Wars: The Phantom Menace - Star Wars appears to be part of the CU, so I thought I'd highlight this episode in particular. Senator Grebleips (who is briefly shown in the film) is a member of an extraterrestrial race that finances intergalactic missions to other galaxies, implying that E.T. originated from the Star Wars galaxy (which would explain why he recognized a kid wearing a Yoda costume on Earth). In addition, Dave's EVA Pod from "2001: Space Odyssey" is seen in Watto's junkyard, which is described by the official database as "a maintenance pod of unknown origin."

      Lupin the 3rd vs. Detective Conan - In this crossover film, Conan Edogawa sets out to apprehend Arsène Lupin III, the suspect of stealing a jewel called the Cherry Sapphire. Since Lupin the III is part of the CU, this film should bring "Detective Conan" (a.k.a. Case Closed) into the CU as well; along with "Magic Kaito" since they frequently crossover with each other (including this film).

      Marvels #1 - Yes, I'm well aware that the mainstream Marvel universe isn't considered part of the CU, but I chose this issue specifically because it seems the most likely to fit; focusing solely on the WWII-era heroes and events like Captain America, Namor, and the original Human Torch from the perspectives of a young J. Jonah Jameson and news photographer Phil Sheldon. It also features cameo appearances from Clark Kent & Lois Lane, Billy Batson, and Popeye the Sailor.

      The Goonies - When Chunk tries contacting the police for help, the policeman disbelieves him, stating: "Just like that last prank, about all those little creatures that multiply when you throw water on them." Additionally, there's a character named Michael in "The Willies", who is heavily implied (via dialogue) to be the same Mikey from "The Goonies". Both of whom were played by Sean Astin.

      Honey, I Blew Up the Kid - In the government werehouse which holds Szalinski's shrink ray from the first movie, a crate labeled "The Arc of the Convent" can be seen in the background.

      I imagine that "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid" would have to be an AU, what with a giant toddler attacking Las Vegas and all.

      I believe Marvels was mentioned in Vol. II of Crossovers by Win Scott Eckert.

      According to Wookiepedia, the Star Wars Wiki, Stephen Spielberg specifically asked Lucas to include a member of ET's race in the film

      According to the same site Robby the Robot also appeared in the Junkyard

      Interestingly, Robby also appeared in a junkyard in an issue of the comic book series Grimjack. An alien that looked like ET appeared in the comic's back up feature Munden's Bar during a crossover with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The comic was set in a nexus of multiple universes so this would probably make the TMNT an AU.

    I don't see the link at the bottom of the post you mentioned. I like the possible crossovers your new contributor mentioned but I'm not sure about the ET one
