Crossover Covers: The Army of Dr. Moreau

This miniseries, set in 1939, is about a group of British and American operatives traveling to the island once owned by Doctor Meraux to stop the Nazis from using the late Meraux’s secrets to create an army of Beast Folk. H.G. Wells’ The Island of Doctor Moreau is stated to be a distorted account of mercenary Edward Prentiss’ time on the island. Meraux’s assistant was named Montague rather than Montgomery, and the Beast Folk never reverted to fully animalistic forms. Given these differences from Wells' novel, I have placed this series in an AU. A text piece in #2 takes the form of a report from an American member of the expedition to Colonel Eaton of U.S. Army Intelligence. Eaton must have been promoted from Major, the rank he held in 1936, as seen in the first Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. #3’s text piece continues the crossover, being a report to General (formerly Colonel) Musgrove that refers to “the situation in Egypt” several years ago. Incidentally, this series is unrelated to Guy Adams' novel Sherlock Holmes: The Army of Dr. Moreau.

  1. Jeffrey Ford's short story "After Moreau," would be an AU example of the Island of Moreau. It plays somewhat loose with the original story.
