The
Red Skull, on seeing the Tesseract, this universe’s version of the
Cosmic Cube, remarks, "And the Führer digs for trinkets in the
desert." This line is a reference to Raiders of the Lost Ark, confirming the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an alternate reality to the CU, as is the main Marvel Universe.

Is the movie itself part of the CU continuity, or are you simply including it as an example for an alternate reality? I recall the "Batman and Captain America" graphic novel had a different outcome for Steve Rogers than what the movie depicted.
ReplyDeleteThat and the other MCU movies definitely take place in an alternate reality rather than the CU, due to that and many other conflicts with other accounts of Marvel heroes in the CU, as well as the very public invasion of New York in The Avengers and other factors.
DeleteUp to the end it probably could take place in the CU. It is until the very end when Cap wakes up in the present that it connects to the Avengers movies. Even the appearance of Tony Stark's grandfather isn't a problem since Iron Man is in the CU. If it did not conflict with the "Batman and Captain America" graphic novel which was in Crossovers Vol. I, it could work if you ignore the Avengers links.
